A note on Hash

Sometimes we get ahead of ourselves as a community/industry/market while using terms and labels. When speaking on the quality of hash and rosin, there are so many variables inside the process that it is hard to come to a standard predictor of quality. Saying that “first wash”, “second wash” are the best, or a certain micron of hash is always going to make the best rosin can’t be uniformly true.

The nuances of hash & rosin are almost never-ending. Each strain is different and individual growing methods have a huge impact on how trichomes turn out, and how they will be released into a final product.

Trichome heads of different sizes will have different effects, and these effects will vary based on the inputs, growing environment, temperature of collection, collection methods etc.

Each grow and hash lab being different, there is no way to standardize the rules of quality and outcome of solventless extraction with marketing terms.

Instead of following rules from folks who aren’t wholly familiar with our strains, lab or grow rooms to produce our rosin, we refine our process by paying careful attention to each individual strain, how they are produced, and how we can extract the highest quality product from that particular batch.

Some strains we collect as low as 74u because those trichomes contain a beautiful expression of flavor and effects from that strain. Sometimes the best hash is coming on a third wash, sometimes on the first, sometimes we are tossing the product from the “first wash” in the trash or set aside for food grade because that strain is going to throw the best quality later based on our particular temperatures/agitation.

Make no mistake, the art of hash-making and rosin pressing is indeed an art having to include timing, environment and a true feel for your product. Despite the commercialization of tools & techniques, each plant is different than the next, and each lab different than their neighbor. Therefore, the only way to make the highest quality solventless is to treat every batch as its own being, and work with it to find the best expression.

That’s what we do. You won’t see definitive labels of “first wash” type buzzwords on our rosin, or claiming that our 90u is a more valuable product across the board than some of our fuller spectrum offerings. We just spend time figuring out how to get the best expression from each strain and try to pass that on to you. Nuance included.
